BMS Design Ltd have over 10 years experience of providing 3D scanning services.  Stemming originally from the application of 3D scanning and reverse engineering for the precision engineering requirements of race car design, and we now provide 3D scanning services to a diverse range of industries including civil engineering, surveying, architectural, crime scene and crash investigation, record keeping, oil and gas, automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, medical, dental, prosthetics, human scanning, electronics, tool and die, master mould design and consumer product manufacturing.

We can provide stand-alone 3D scanning either on-site at your premises or we can scan the object for you in-house, depending on the needs of each project.

Alternatively we can then transform 3D scan data into highly accurate polygon and native CAD models for reverse engineering, product design, rapid prototyping and analysis.  We use intelligent, highly automated technological tools for rapid, accurate 3D creation and imaging into the most usable 3D polygonal, surface and CAD data, with parametric integration for popular MCAD products (CATIA, Autodesk Inventor, Creo Elements/Pro (Pro/ENGINEER), SolidWorks, (3D Max, NURBS, STEP, IGS, XT).

The benefits of 3D scanning

3D object scanning enhances the design process, speeds up and reduces data collection errors, saves time and money, and thus makes it an attractive alternative to traditional data collection techniques. 3D scanning is also used for mobile mapping, surveying, scanning of buildings and building interiors, and in archaeology.

Hardware

BMS Design 3D Scanning Services:

  • Our portable non-contact laser scan measurement systems accurately capture 3D data.
  • The system rotates 360° and measures everything within its line of sight up to 120m away.
  • With a scan rate of 976,000 points per seconds and an accuracy of up to ±0.001mm it can be used in a wide range of industries and locations.

Large scale surveying

Once datum points have been placed the scanner can be moved for continual scanning of large sites. Otherwise light aircraft, balloons, cranes and model helicopters are used.

2. STL file conversion;  using specialist software BMS Design Ltd transform 3D Scan Data into virtually any form of CAD file for virtually any industry.

3. CAD file manipulation; model can be cleaned up to make clean parametric surfaces for ease of manufacture and other forms of downstream engineering.
