3D scan and reverse engineering of rare Ferrari Testa Rossa classic sports car

A classic car collector required a CAD model of their classic car in order keep a record of the original form and shape of their Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa in case it ever has to be repaired.

The project brief:

There were only ever 34 Ferrari Testa Rossa cars built (from 1956 to 1961) and in 2014 an unrestored, ex-Works Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa was sold for a sum rumoured to be around $40m – which would make it the most valuable car ever to be sold in the public domain. In order to futureproof the car and keep a record of the form and shape of the vehicle in case it ever has to be repaired, the owner asked BMS to 3D scan and produce a 3D parametric CAD model of the body.  Due to our TVR and Ginetta automotive background, BMS we able to clear up the surfaces/ returns in seamless fashion.
